Understand1 therefore this day, that the LORD thy God [is] he which goeth over6 before thee; [as] a consuming6 fire he shall destroy55 them, and he shall bring them down55 before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out,52 and destroy52 them quickly, as the LORD hath said14 unto thee.
Speak4 not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out2 from before thee, saying,2 For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in52 to possess2 this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out56 from before thee.
Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go6 to possess2 their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God doth drive them out56 from before thee, and that he may perform53 the word which the LORD sware8 unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Remember,3 [and] forget4 not, how thou provokedst the LORD thy God to wrath52 in the wilderness: from the day that thou didst depart1 out of the land of Egypt, until ye came2 unto this place, ye have been rebellious56 against the LORD.
When I was gone up2 into the mount to receive2 the tables of stone, [even] the tables of the covenant which the LORD made1 with you, then I abode4 in the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat1 bread nor drink1 water:
And the LORD delivered4 unto me two tables of stone written7 with the finger of God; and on them [was written] according to all the words, which the LORD spake14 with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.
And the LORD said4 unto me, Arise,3 get thee down3 quickly from hence; for thy people which thou hast brought forth52 out of Egypt have corrupted14 [themselves]; they are quickly turned aside1 out of the way which I commanded14 them; they have made1 them a molten image.
And I fell down101 before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat1 bread, nor drink1 water, because of all your sins which ye sinned,1 in doing2 wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.53
And I took1 your sin, the calf which ye had made,1 and burnt4 it with fire, and stamped4 it, [and] ground2 [it] very small,53 [even] until it was as small1 as dust: and I cast55 the dust thereof into the brook that descended6 out of the mount.
Likewise when the LORD sent2 you from Kadeshbarnea, saying,2 Go up3 and possess3 the land which I have given1 you; then ye rebelled55 against the commandment of the LORD your God, and ye believed52 him not, nor hearkened1 to his voice.
I prayed101 therefore unto the LORD, and said,4 O Lord GOD, destroy55 not thy people and thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed1 through thy greatness, which thou hast brought forth52 out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
Lest the land whence thou broughtest us out52 say,4 Because the LORD was not able2 to bring53 them into the land which he promised14 them, and because he hated them, he hath brought them out52 to slay53 them in the wilderness.
