It is the Christmas holiday season once again. The season of love, joy, and peace. A time of sharing, a time to give and a time to receive. It is that time of year of the hustle and bustle of looking hard to find that special gift. I would like to share with you a very special gift that is not so hard to find.
The Lord has given mankind two very special gifts. The first gift God has given unto each of us is a freewill. He has given us the ability to make decisions and to follow after the choices which we have made. The Lord did not create us to be mindless, we are not robots or zombies. Nor did He create us to be His personal slaves, or to be slaves to anyone or anything else either. Out of His wisdom and love, our Lord God created us to fellowship with Him. Our Heavenly Father loves us with a love that is beyond our comprehension, and He wants us to love Him also. But He will not force His love upon us, nor will He try to force anyone to love Him. He wants our love to be given as our own freewill choice.
We all know the story of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. Adam and Eve made a really bad decision with consequences that has been felt by all mankind. They chose to believe the lie of the devil, they followed that decision by eating the fruit which they believed would make them as gods. The choice that they made separated them from God and His love. All of mankind and all of creation on earth has suffered from that separation from God and His love.
The second very special gift the Lord God has given us is our ability to return from that separation, to return to God and His love. Jesus came to perform the work which will bring us back to right standing with God if we will receive His gift.
Romans 5:11-21 (The Living Bible Paraphrased) , " Now we rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God - all because of what our Lord Jesus Christ has done in dying for our sins - making us friends of God. When Adam sinned, sin entered the entire human race. His sin spread death throughout all the world, so everything began to grow old and die, for all sinned. (We know that it was Adam’s sin that caused this) because although, of course, people were sinning from the time of Adam until Moses, God did not in those days judge them guilty of death for breaking his laws - because he had not yet given his laws to them, nor told them what he wanted them to do. So when their bodies died it was not for their own sins since they themselves had never disobeyed God’s special law against eating the forbidden fruit, as Adam had. What a contrast between Adam and Christ who was yet to come! And what a difference between man’s sin and God’s forgiveness! For this one man, Adam, brought death to many through his sin. But this one man, Jesus Christ, brought forgiveness to many through God’s mercy. Adam’s one sin brought the penalty of death to many, while Christ freely takes away many sins and gives glorious life instead. The sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to be king over all, but all who take God’s gift of forgiveness and acquittal are kings of life because of this one man, Jesus Christ. Yes, Adam’s sin brought punishment to all, but Christ’s righteousness makes men right with God, so that they can live. Adam caused many to be sinners because he disobeyed God, and Christ caused many to be acceptable to God because he obeyed. The Ten Commandments were given so that all could see the extent of their failure to obey God’s laws. But the more we see our sinfulness, the more we see God’s abounding grace forgiving us. Before, sin ruled over all men and brought them to death, but now God’s kindness rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
What a wonderfully glorious gift our Lord God has given unto us! Adam and Eve wanted to become as gods. But in their failed effort they brought sin and death to all mankind. They made an unwise choice, because our Heavenly Father wants us to be His children. And we will be His children if we will receive His gift.
Romans 8:15-17 (NKJ), "For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father’. The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs - heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ."
Though Adam and Eve failed in their choice to make themselves as gods, you can receive the free gift from God to be His child, redeemed by the blood of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. The gift is really quite easy to receive.
Romans 10:8-10,13 (NKJ), "But what does it say? ‘The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart’ (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For "whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.""
The choices we make dictate the lives that we lead. I pray that you will be wise and choose the Lord this day and receive His perfect Christmas gift, the gift of salvation and His many blessings.
Praise God. Hallelujah. Amen.
